How can your job help the planet?

“Think of ways your job could help the planet….”

…writes Hannah Ritchie, Data Scientist and Writer at Our World in Data, at Natural History Museum’s “Fixing our Broken Planet” exhibition.

An almighty claxon call. And my copywriting driving force for a long time.

To communicate the good work organisations are doing. And the positive impact on people, communities, nature and planet. Better.

When a writing project comes up that means I can play a tiny part in changing people’s understanding, behaviour and habits. For the good. Then that’s a job well done.

Whether it’s communicating the BENEFITS of green energy, joined up technologies in retro-fit builds, sensor tech that measures air pollution or soil metrics for farmers, sustainable farming, achieving net zero, improved biodiversity, green spaces in cities, natural wildlife corridors, biomes, circular economies, sustainable solutions, gas monitoring equipment and the IMPACT of plastic pollution, waste to landfill and climate change.

I’ve done it all. But it feels like I’ve barely begun. There is so much great work still to share.

Just reading about the climate work of world-leading scientists and researchers at London’s natural history museum gives a tiny insight.

As a copywriter I get to write about all manner of topics and long ago decided if I could write about (to sell) anything, then I would use it as a force for good.

To encourage others to understand better. To be empowered to make healthier, kinder choices for all of us.

I will Hannah, whenever I have the opportunity, use my communication skills for good.

And if you haven’t already, go see Our Story with David Attenborough. A beautifully captured, immersive and thought-provoking film.

There is much to do.
