Copy for permanent displays

From a display of sepia photos without explanation to a clear, engaging story, illustrated with pictures past and present.

It's 3 years since this "Celebrating 50 years" display went up outside my local Yacht Havens Group Ltd Marina office.

And
it still gives me a buzz every time I see it.

So much so that I asked Louise Johnson to take a wee picture last week after we'd had a catch up lunch together at the marina's popular Haven Bar & Restaurant.

The Yacht Haven asked me to help them create a single display which captured their 50 year history. With words that explained the photographs and told the story.

Far from the previous sepia prints, they wanted one exhibition piece that brought the whole story together. A story of determination, hard work and vision.

In the beginning... an engaging story that told passers-by how the first Yacht Haven marina came about, the local characters involved, the work it took to find the right location, what the site looked like before they started dredging and how it has grown over the decades.

The impact their first Lymington marina (May 1972) had on the local community, what came next and how today's berth holders perceive the Yacht Haven Group.

It was a pleasure to capture and write the story in one big display. And it gives me a lot of pleasure to know marina visitors enjoy it to this day.
